Holy Week
Palm Sunday, the gateway to Holy Week - the most important week
of the Church's year, when we celebrate the mysteries of salvation
accomplished by Our Lord in the last days of His earthly life. Leaflets
with the times of Holy Week services are available from the back
of the church. Please try and come to as many of the services as
possible. Please note that there is no morning Mass on Tuesday (due
to the Chrism Mass at the Cathedral) and no evening Mass on Easter
Sunday. The church will be closed until 4pm on Holy Tuesday and
after the 12 noon Mass on Easter Sunday.
THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION is an important way of preparing
for the Easter Triduum. There will be the following opportunities
to celebrate this sacrament:
Holy Monday (5th April)-after the 10am and 7pm Masses
Holy Tuesday (6th April) - after the 7pm Mass
Spy Wednesday (7th April) - after the 10am Mass.
At 7.30pm there is a Mass of Reconciliation at St Aidan's, East
Acton, followed by individual confessions. All are welcome.
Maundy Thursday-confessions will be heard from 6.30pm.
Please note that the sacraments are not normally celebrated between
the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Maundy Thursday and the Easter
Vigil, except in extremis.
GETTING READY FOR THE EASTER TRIDUUM
Twelve volunteers are needed to have their feet washed at the Mass
of the Lord's Supper on Maundy Thursday (a gesture of humility and
service). Please see the list at the back of the church if you're
interested.
Houseplants
We need to borrow some houseplants for Maundy Thursday evening,
to decorate the church and remind us of the Garden of Gethsemane.
Please leave your name and telephone number on the pot so that we
can arrange their return. Any queries, then please ask one of the
priests.
Cleaners
If you are willing to help clean and prepare the church for the
Easter Vigil, please come to the church on Holy Saturday from 10.30am
onwards. Thank you.
Servers
Please take note of the various rehearsals this week. There is a
letter waiting for you in the sacristy-please see Lesley or one
of the parish team. Training sessions will take place on Holy Monday
at 7.30pm (for the Easter Vigil), 11am on Maundy Thursday (for the
Mass of the Lord's Supper) and 12 noon on Good Friday (for the afternoon
liturgy). We need as many servers as possible to come to these sessions!
Thank you.
THANK YOU!
To all of you who helped clean the church on Wednesday. Although
the work on the floor is not yet complete and will continue after
Easter, the major period of upheaval is now over and we will be
able to use the main church for most of the time. Many thanks for
your patience and co-operation over the past three months.
MASS CONSULTATION FORMS
Must be returned to the Presbytery by today (04/04/04). Many thanks
for your participation in the consultation process.
CAN YOU SPARE AN HOUR TO PRAY FOR PEACE?There will be an inter-denominational
prayer service for peace at St Aidan's, East Acton tomorrow (Monday
5th April), 8pm-9pm. All are welcome.
JUSTICE AND PEACE MEETING
Will be held at St Aidan's, East Acton, on Tuesday 6th April at
8pm. All are welcome to join this group.
LOOKING AHEAD-THE MAY PROCESSION
This annual event will take place on Sunday 16th May at 3pm. We
are delighted to announce that our guest preacher for the occasion
will be the Rt Hon. Mgr Graham Leonard, P.C., K.C.V.O., former Anglican
Bishop of London and now a Catholic priest based in Oxfordshire.
Please make a note of this in your diary!
FR JOHN TAYLOR
Has recently moved to Nazareth House, Lancaster. During my recent
stay in Lancaster, I paid him a visit. Although his health is deteriorating,
he remains cheerful, and wanted me to assure you all of his love
and prayers. Let us, also, remember him in our prayers. Fr Nicholas.
SUNDAY COLLECTION (28/3/04)-£1217.25. Thank you.
